Preparing Children for Success in School and in Life

This time of year is always filled with so much excitement as students get ready to go back to school. At TVO, we’ve set out an ambitious plan to support student success for the year ahead. I’d like to share with you two programs that are stand-outs for me.

As full-day kindergarten rolls-out across the province this September, TVO wanted to support our youngest students with a unique program that helps ensure a successful transition to the classroom. With that in mind, TVO presents Hi Opie!, a new live-action program featuring an enthusiastic puppet created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop who helps kids understand the kindergarten experience. Based on learning outcomes from the Ontario kindergarten curriculum, Opie interacts with his new real kid friends and helps to role-model the ways in which children can excel in kindergarten and throughout school.

For school-aged learners, Annedroids follows the adventures of Anne, an 11-year old genius and kid-scientist. This action-adventure series encourages girls to pursue STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) interests – ultimately, encouraging career paths that have a direct correlation to building a prosperous economy in Ontario.

I’m proud that TVO is able to help kids get ready for school and to inspire young minds to become the next generation of scientists, mathematicians and engineers. And I hope that you’ll check out both of these innovative programs and share them with the children in your lives.
