TVO Documentary ‘Shamed’ Exposes the Complex Nature of Online Vigilantism

Toronto, Ontario, January 15, 2026 – TVO Docs and Border City Pictures present Shamed, a cautionary tale of an online vigilante whose actions led to devastating consequences. Available to stream across Canada starting January 18 on TVO.

Shamed follows Jason Nassr, creator of Creeper Hunter TV, which publicly identified and shamed people he suspected of being child predators online. While a few of the accused faced consequences in court, Nassr was also investigated and convicted of extortion, criminal harassment, and making and distributing written child pornography.

Shamed is a serious look at Nassr’s online vigilantism and a criminal justice system struggling to contain the fallout. The film reveals the human cost of online shaming and the ethical dilemmas faced by both individuals and institutions when online vigilantism evolves and starts to have real-life consequences.

“This film is a bold exploration of a tough, multi-faceted topic,” said John Ferri, VP of Programming and Content at TVO. “It presents viewers with an unusual story, challenges them with a whole host of questions, and serves as a precursor to difficult but necessary conversations about our digital world.”

“Balance, transparency, and fairness were crucial in the process of making this film, and our team understood the immense responsibility that comes along with making a film that deals with a delicate and emotional topic”, said Matt Gallagher, Director of Shamed.

Produced by Border City Pictures, Shamed marks the company’s eighth documentary feature. Their films have screened at Canadian and International festivals, sold to broadcasters around the world, and won or been nominated for numerous awards and distinctions including Hot Docs Roger’s Audience Choice Award, DGC Jury Prize at Hot Docs, Canadian Screen Awards, DGC’s Allan King Award.

Shamed premieres Sunday, January 18 at 9 pm ET, with streaming starting same day at 9 am ET via the TVO Docs YouTube channelwebsite and Smart TV app. Viewer discretion is advised.
