“Consumers today are increasingly mindful of the products they purchase, carefully considering factors such as local sourcing and sustainability,” said Alexandra Roberts, Executive Producer, TVO Docs. “It stands to reason that a similar level of thoughtfulness should be applied to the way we travel. Overbooked encourages viewers to make informed decisions by fostering a deeper understanding of the impact of travel on both people and the planet.”
As travel and tourism sets new records, with growth expected to persist, Overbooked offers a timely and crucial examination of the industry’s most pressing issues. By exploring its challenges and potential solutions, the series brings together a diverse range of voices from around the world, including industry experts, sociologists, economists, cultural advocates, and everyday people affected by tourism.
“Overbooked isn’t about pointing fingers; We want to inspire viewers to think about the choices we’re making about how, where, when and why we travel”, said Meredith Fowke, series producer and writer. “It’s about trying to find a new balance in an industry that on one hand caters to the basic human desire of movement and hospitality but on the other, has these largely invisible negative consequences”.
Overbooked makes its digital premiere January 24 on the TVO Docs YouTube channel, TVO.org and Smart TV app and the broadcast premiere on January 25 at 7 p.m. on TVO.
