TVOkids Original ‘Dr. Cheddar’ is here to help young children build practical, everyday skills

Humorous new episodes of TVOkids Original series Dr. Cheddar are now available to help preschool children navigate life and get them ready for kindergarten and a wider world of adventures. Available now on TVOkids and streaming on TVOkids.comYouTube and TVOkids streaming services like Apple TV and Roku, Dr. Cheddar explores everyday situations to help children navigate life as they grow up and prepare for greater independence at school.

Dr. Cheddar offers children relatable and engaging ways to explore and prepare for everyday situations they will experience for the very first time—from selecting clothes based on the weather to washing their hands alone,” says Marney Malabar, Director of Kids TV, TVO. “The series does an incredible job of connecting with kids on their level, calming fears and satisfying curiosities we’ve all had at one point in our lives.”

15 new episodes of TVO Original Dr. Cheddar follow a series of beloved shorts created for the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of which showcase how to navigate familiar everyday situations that may at first seem difficult or uncomfortable, such as physical distancingmaking the bed and safely enjoying swimming pools.

Dr. Cheddar incorporates current information from leading experts such as fire marshalls, optometrists, dentists and educators. The series also features special appearances from health experts at The Hospital for Sick Children and trusted answers from AboutKidsHealth.ca,” say Dina and Frank Meschkuleit of Invisible Inc. “This puppet series is a terrific opportunity to let kids watch something fun and fuzzy while building social skills, critical thinking and problem solving.”

“The skill-building support in Dr. Cheddar is always shared with humour to help children engage with the importance of life learning,” says Dr. Jennifer Motha, PhD, an Ontario teacher and education consultant for the series. “The episodes are a digestible length for kids that feature everyday situations with straightforward resolutions.”

TVOkids Original Dr. Cheddar was developed to reflect key concepts in the Ontario curriculum, such as learning independence, critical thinking and listening skills, how to communicate effectively, personal hygiene, and social skills like empathy and responsibility.
