Interactive Storytelling with Avatar Secrets

Like many people, I love to discover new apps. This week I’ve been quite excited to explore and discover Avatar Secrets, a ground-breaking new interactive documentary commissioned by TVO and developed exclusively for the iPad.

Avatar Secrets tells the story of director, producer and Ryerson University professor Ramona Pringle who turns to the digital world of MMOGs (massively multiplayer online games) after facing some unexpected real-life challenges.

When I first heard Ramona speak about Avatar Secrets, I was struck by her passion and her unique approach to filmmaking – a new type of interactive storytelling. (You can watch an interview with Ramona on The Agenda with Steve Paikin here.) Ramona explores the virtual world as a new frontier for self-discovery and a forum for human connection and demonstrates how technology can change a life.

Avatar Secrets is a true Ontario innovation success storyIt redefines the documentary form via app functionality. I’m so pleased that TVO supports bold new visionaries like Ramona who push the boundaries of digital storytelling and engage us in new and compelling ways.
