Accessibility plan update 2025

TVO Media Education Group (TVO) is dedicated to accessibility and inclusion. This update outlines our progress in making content and services accessible to all Ontarians and members of the Canadian broadcasting system. Key achievements are noted, building on past efforts and TVO Accessibility Plan 2023.

Key Highlights:

Training and Development: TVO continued to provide comprehensive training on accessibility standards and the Human Rights Code to all new employees, and enhanced training programs for leadership and staff, focusing on advanced topics in diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Web Accessibility: A monthly working group involving senior leadership was initiated to address key issues related to web accessibility, resulting in significant improvements to the user experience on TVO websites. In addition, new accessibility features were implemented on TVO websites, including improved navigation, alternative text for images, and keyboard accessibility. TVO builds and checks websites in alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level A since 2014 and with WCAG 2.0 Level AA since 2021. This ongoing commitment to accessibility is a crucial part of our efforts to ensure access to our content and services without barriers.

Described Video: The availability of described video has expanded, now providing an average of 90 hours per week. An in-player described video functionality was also launched to include more programs and content types.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement: The feedback process was enhanced by incorporating more channels for user input, including direct feedback options on our websites. Feedback is used to enhance and refine our services and content. No feedback was received, and there have been no changes in consultation since the Accessibility Plan, and the first plan update were published.

Moving Forward:

TVO is committed to eliminating barriers and providing equal access for individuals with disabilities. We will continue monitoring, reviewing, and adjusting our accessibility measures for improvement, and engaging with stakeholders to gather insights and collaborate on best practices for accessibility.

This update reflects our commitment to accessibility and our ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive environment for all our users. We look forward to continuing this important work and making meaningful progress in the years to come.
