TVO’s ‘FOR THE LOVE OF MOVIES’ UNEARTHS ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE FROM DECADES OF FILM HISTORY

Featuring often never-before-seen interviews with icons Catherine O’Hara, John Candy, Mike Myers and more

Toronto, Ontario, March 12, 2026 – For nearly 40 years, TVO’s iconic Saturday Night at the Movies, hosted by the beloved Elwy Yost, welcomed audiences into the magic of cinema– spanning silent films to Hollywood’s golden age and modern masterpieces. Building on that legacy, TVO is launching a brand-new documentary series, For the Love of Movies, which draws directly from the TVO vault to reveal often never-before-seen interviews and archival gems. Audiences across Canada can begin streaming the series on March 28.

“We’re digging deep into TVO’s archives to rediscover rare interviews. Some are laugh-out-loud funny, others deeply insightful, a few are very moving, and many offer behind-the-scenes secrets from legendary stars,” says Elizabeth St. Philip, Director of Program Development at TVO. “We’re thrilled to share these unforgettable moments with audiences and hope they bring them as much joy as they brought us.”

For the Love of Movies revisits TVO’s rich film heritage by showcasing candid conversations with some of the most influential figures in film. Viewers will discover interviews and rare behind-the-scenes moments that capture the magic of Canadian film history. Narrated by accomplished Canadian comedian and actress, Aurora Browne (Baroness Von Sketch Show), the docuseries will include five episodes:

Canadians Are Funny, Eh?: Featuring Canadian comedy icons like John Candy, Martin Short, Mike Myers, and Catherine O’Hara, revealing the origins of SCTV from the legends who built it and reflecting on what makes Canadians so hilarious.
