Stand-out nominations include two for prestigious Donald Brittain Award and a sweep for Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series
TVO is proud to share that TVO productions and co-productions are honoured with 35 nominations at the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards.
Among these, two of the five nominees for the prestigious Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program are TVO Original documentaries Dispatches from a Field Hospital and Ghosts of Afghanistan.
These documentaries demonstrate the breadth of important issues that TVO Originals explore, from a timely documentary on how Ontario families are straining to keep in touch while staying apart during the deadly COVID-19 pandemic (Dispatches from a Field Hospital), to a first-hand account of NATO’s failed attempt to bring democracy and women’s rights and freedoms to Afghanistan (Ghosts of Afghanistan).
Also nominated in noteworthy categories are TVO Originals Captive for the Ted Rogers Best Feature Length Documentary; The Face of Anonymous for Best Documentary Program; and Borealis for the Rob Stewart Award for Best Science or Nature Documentary Program or Series.
In children’s programming, TVOkids Originals swept the Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series category with nominations for All-Round Champion, Gabby’s Farm, How Do You Feel? and My Home, My Life!. These programs support kids in understanding themselves and the world around them, while building resilience and problem-solving skills.
Other TVOkids nominations in major categories include Wild Kratts: Cats and Dogs for Best Animated Program or Series; Paw Patrol for Best Pre-School Program or Series; and Odd Squad Mobile Unit for Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series. TVOkids Originals and TVOkids productions are nominated for a total of 22 Canadian Screen Awards.
All of TVO’s nominated programs can be streamed anytime on TVO.org or TVOkids.com.
