TVO’s in-depth current affairs, thought-provoking documentaries and award-winning children’s content were recognized last week by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television through 35 nominations for the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards (CSA), picking up a total of eight awards, and a Special Award Spotlight recognition for Pat Ellingson, TVO’s former head of kids programming. Of note, TVOkids’ Odd Squad, Science Max: Experiments at Large, and Paw Patrol achieved multiple CSA category wins, speaking to the quality and impact of TVOkids content. The CSAs recognize excellence in film, television, and digital media.
“TVO is proud to partner with some of the industry’s best and brightest to spark moments of learning for Ontarians of all ages,” says Lisa de Wilde, Chief Executive Officer at TVO. “Congratulations to our partners and to everyone at TVO dedicated to making a difference by creating those powerful moments, big and small, where learning happens.”
TVOkids won a total of seven awards, scoring a hat trick in the three top categories of Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series for Odd Squad, Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series for Science Max, and Best Pre-School Program or Series for Paw Patrol. Odd Squad also won for Best Writing, Children’s or Youth, and picked up Best Cross-Platform Project – Children’s and Youth for its online game Odd Squad 1.5. Paw Patrol also won for Best Direction, Animation, and Best Sound, Animation.
“TVO’s award-winning children’s programming and innovative digital content create meaningful learning experiences that empower the engaged citizens of today and tomorrow,” says de Wilde. “Whether it’s in the classroom, in living rooms around the province, or on your smartphone, TVO’s high-quality content is available to everyone in Ontario.”
Additionally, in the Special Award Spotlight, Pat Ellingson, TVO’s former Creative Head of Children’s and Parents’ Media, was recognized with the CSA’s inaugural Outstanding Media Innovation Award for building TVO into the most trusted media brand for children in Canada.
TVO documentaries also picked up an award for Where The Universe Sings: The Spiritual Journey of Lawren Harris, winning Best Sound, Non-Fiction.
