TVO Supports Students, Parents and Educators During Return to Remote Learning

During Ontario’s return to remote learning, TVO is stepping up to continue to support students, parents and educators with free curriculum-linked online learning tools and programming. From TVOkids Power Hour of Learning, to Home4School’s interactive games, plus math tutoring and more, TVO helps students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 succeed in school, explore their interests, and attend to their health and wellness needs with the following resources.

TVO Learn (Grades 1 – 12)
A comprehensive online learning tool, TVO Learn features curriculum overviews and curated resources for Grades 1 to 8 that parents can easily use at home to supplement their children’s learning in four subject areas: math, language, science, and social studies. The website also offers a searchable catalogue of 144 high school courses to support study and supplemental learning for older students.

TVOkids Power Hour of Learning (Grades 1 – 6)
TVOkids will continue to broadcast the popular Power Hour of Learning – special programming that features Ontario certified teachers engaging students in lessons related to the Ontario curriculum, including language, math, science and technology. To keep kids active, Power Hour of Learning also features Power Up—workout videos for kids created in partnership with the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA). Power Hour of Learning is broadcast on TVO from Monday-Friday, with one hour each morning devoted to Grades 1-3 (9:00 am – 10:00 am), and an afternoon hour focused on Grades 4-6 (1:30 pm – 2:30 pm). It can also be streamed 24/7 on the TVOkids Power Hour: Teacher Edition YouTube channel.

Home4School (Grades 1 – 6)
Home4School is a Canadian Screen Award–nominated interactive offering from TVOkids, the Shaw Rocket Fund, and Sinking Ship Entertainment. It features educational games based on the popular Dino DanaAnnedroids and Odd Squad television series. Games can be played online or on paper and are designed to enhance kids’ learning in areas like science, technology, paleontology and math. Educational guides for teachers and parents outlining the relevant Ontario curriculum expectations are also included.

That TVOkids Show (Kindergarten and up)
To support at-home learners, That TVOkids Show hosts will be sharing ideas like how to make homework fun, and featuring science and music activities. That TVOkids Show broadcasts every weekday at 4:30 pm, and is also available for streaming on the That TVOkids Show YouTube Channel.

TVO mPower (K – Grade 6)
TVO mPower offers more than 65 free online games that help students master tougher-to-learn math and STEM concepts. All games are curriculum-based and designed to bolster foundational skills and confidence.

TVOkids Subject-Specific YouTube Channels (Pre-school – Grade 5)
In addition to the 13 hours of educational content it broadcasts every day, TVOkids offers five YouTube channels that will keep kids from pre-school to Grade 5 learning about MathematicsScience and TechnologyLanguageSocial Studies, and Health and Arts.

TVO Mathify (Grades 6 – 10)
TVO Mathify is a mobile-accessible math tutoring platform that features an interactive whiteboard, voice and text chat. Students can take advantage of free, live, one-on-one math tutoring with an Ontario certified teacher. They also have access to the Mathify Question Bank, which features 200 questions that students can answer independently, or with the help of Mathify tutors. Tutors are available from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm Monday through Friday, and Sunday 3:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
