Perimeter Institute: Inspiring future women in science

On International Women’s Day, a panel of women in science and tech discuss how to get the younger generation involved in STEM

On March 8, International Women’s Day, Waterloo’s Perimeter Institute hosted a two-hour event to encourage today’s generation of young women to pursue careers in STEM. Inspiring Future Women in Science featured several successful women in the scientific and technical fields, including Linda Hasenfratz, CEO of Linamar, a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing company; Eugenia Duodu, an award-winning chemist and CEO of Visions of Science, which aims to advance educational opportunities for under-represented youth; and Martha Lenio, who led an eight-month Mars exploration simulation funded by NASA.

The Perimeter Institute’s public lectures are usually held once a month. The entire 2017–18 series is streamed on TVO.org.
