On December 30, 2013 His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, announced the recipients of the Order of Canada. I was so excited to learn that Steve Paikin was named an Officer of the Order of Canada, joining a group of exceptional Canadians awarded this tremendous honour.
The Order of Canada recognizes “outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.” I know Steve as both a colleague and a friend, and I believe that he truly is one of the great journalists of our time. What is so inspiring about Steve is his relentless dedication to engaging Ontarians in issues that really matter. In a world dominated by sound bites, he elevates the conversation and digs deeper so that all Ontarians can gain a better understanding of the big issues and the world around us. We’re all enriched because of the work that Steve does and that’s what makes him so deserving of this honour.
