TVO Today Live Returns for Season 3 with Debate on Snowbirds and U.S. Politics

First event of the season will take place on October 26 in Newmarket, Ontario

Toronto, Ontario, October 22, 2025 – TVO Today Live (TTL) returns for its third season of free events, shifting focus from the health of democracy to the growing threats Canada faces to its economic and national sovereignty, with its first event on October 26 in Newmarket, Ontario.

Hosted by Steve Paikin of TVO’s The Agenda, this season will explore discussions on a broad spectrum of critical issues including free speech, diplomatic relations, militarization, electoral reform, trade relations with the U.S. and China, agricultural self-sufficiency, and many more.

“I’m really happy to be hosting another season of this town hall series, TVO Today Live,” says Steve Paikin, host of TTL. “It’s another way of bringing our unique, deep dive, Ontario-focused journalism to the public.”

The season kicks off with a timely debate regarding whether Canadian snowbirds should travel to the states. With billions of Canadian dollars flowing into the U.S. economy each year via seasonal travel, some argue that in light of the current American political climate, it’s time for an “elbows up” approach. While spring coverage hinted at hesitation among snowbirds, the looming cold weather may prompt a change of heart.

“We’re starting this season with something closer to home – and it’s an issue that I’m sure a lot of Ontarians have considered,” Steve continues. “I’ve met plenty of Ontarians who have decided not to visit the United States until Donald Trump has left the White House, while others say they don’t intend to allow his style of politics from deterring them from enjoying their lives. It’s a great debate, and we’re looking forward to having it on TVO Today Live.”

Join us on October 26 for a thought-provoking conversation about where snowbirds may be flying off to this year.
