Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR)


TVO is committed to providing accessible customer service to all of its customers. The objective of this policy is to meet the requirements in accordance with the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service (Ontario Regulation 429/07).


Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 all public and private sector organizations must meet the requirements of accessibility standards established by regulation. This policy establishes the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation in the areas of Employment, Information and Communications and Transportation for TVO in accordance with Ontario Regulation 191/11.


Emergency procedure/plans - Legislated Date: 2012

  • Make Emergency Procedure/Plans available to public and employees in an accessible format or with appropriate communication supports, as soon as practicable, upon request

Policies and procedures - Legislated Date: 2013

  • Create Policy with Statement of Organizational Commitment in written form and make available to the public
  • Provide Policy with Statement of Organizational Commitment in an accessible format upon request

Accessibility plan - multi-year - Legislated Date: 2013

  • Create Accessibility Plan in consultation with persons with disabilities, and AAC (Accessibility Advisory Committee) if established
  • Publish Accessibility Plan and annual status reports/updates
  • Provide Accessibility Plan and annual status reports/updates in an accessible format upon request
  • Review Accessibility Plan every 5 years

Procuring or acquiring goods or services - Legislated Date: 2013

  • Incorporate accessibility design, criteria and features in procurement processes

Employment standards - Legislated Date: 2012 - 2014

  • Provide and review individualized Workplace Emergency Response Process information to employees who have a disability if there is awareness of such a need. (Legislated Date: 2012)
  • Notify employees and public regarding availability of accommodation in recruitment (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Notify applicants about availability of accommodation upon request for assessments or selection process in recruitment (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Inform successful applicants and employees of policies regarding policies for accommodating employees with disabilities, including but not limited to job accommodations (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Provide accessible formats and communication supports available to perform job (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Create written process for development of Documented Individual Accommodation Plans (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Have and document a Return to Work Process (Legislated Date: 2014)
  • Ensure performance management takes into account accessibility needs and individual accommodation plans (Legislated Date: 2014)

Educational and training resources and materials - Legislated Date: 2013

  • Provide educational resources or materials in accessible format (if notification of need is given)
  • Provide student records and information on program requirements in accessible format (if notification of need is given)

Training to educator - Legislated Date: 2013

  • Train educators on accessibility awareness related to accessible program or course delivery and instruction
  • Keep records of training provided, including the dates on which the training was provided, and the number of individuals to whom it was provided

Training - Legislated Date: 2014

  • Provide training on the requirements of the accessibility standards and on the Human Rights Code as it pertains to persons with disabilities to all employees & volunteers, policy developers, and those providing goods or services on behalf of organization.
  • Keep records of training provided, including the dates on which training is provided, and the number of individuals to whom it is provided

Feedback process - Legislated Date: 2014

  • Develop feedback processes for persons raising concerns regarding accessibility that are accessible for persons with disabilities
  • Provide accessible formats and communication supports with respect to the feedback process upon request
  • Notify public about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports with respect to the feedback process

Accessible websites - Legislated Date: 2014

  • Ensure all new websites and new web content going through a significant change conform with WCAG 2.0 Level A guidelines

Accessible formats and communication supports - Legislated Date: 2015

  • Provide public information in accessible formats and communication supports, in collaboration with the person making the request to determine suitable formats and supports, in a timely manner that takes into account the person’s accessibility needs due to disability, at a cost that is no more than the regular cost charged to other persons, upon request
  • Notify public about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports.
